What is PLAB?

The PLAB test is the main route by which International Medical Graduates (IMGs) demonstrate that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to practise medicine in the UK.

The General Medical Council encourages all applicants who are considering to work as a Doctor in the UK to undertake the PLAB examination as this increases your chances of employment. However, medical postings in the UK are becoming more competitive and completing your PLAB examination is not a guarantee that you will secure a job. Other criterions such as previous work experience and the ability to match the person specification for the selected specialty need to be taken into consideration.
